What is the Gospel?

Father God is holy, sinless, and can’t approach sin; a shocking revelation when one realizes how sinful we are. Yet, he seeks an intimacy with each one of us, calling us to him. His desire for intimacy with us recreates to some extent the relationship Father God has with his Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and Jesus has with the Holy Spirit. Just like a human can be many things, husband, father, son, the one and only God is 3 persons in one, Father God, Jesus the Son, and their Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Each of these persons is male, not female, and each has his own role to play in Eternity.

Father God planned our redemption through his Son, Jesus, who executed this plan, and the Holy Spirit revealed/s this plan, and administers it in our lives. The saying goes,

“The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and

the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.”

Alistair Begg says it succinctly:

We find Christ in all the Scriptures. In the Old Testament He

is predicted, in the Gospels He is revealed, in Acts He is

preached, in the epistles He is explained, and in Revelation

He is expected.

One has only to understand just a minute portion of their thoughts to know they’re a sinner; who hasn’t lied, or stolen, or wanted someone dead? Who hasn’t disobeyed or dishonored their parents, or imagined carnal thoughts, or envied the good fortune of another? The penalty for sin is death. Adam was born physically and spiritually alive, but when he sinned, sin put an expiration date on both the physical and the spiritual body; Adam’s spirit died right then and there, along with Eve’s, and all their offspring are born spiritually dead, while their bodies eventually died, too, just like ours do.

Since God is sinless, he knew there needed to be a sinless human to save us, who can accept the penalty for sin for all mankind. Jesus came down in the flesh and was born to Mary and Father God is his father. He was tempted in all the ways we experience as humans; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Being sinless, Father God placed all our sin upon him, and he accepted our punishment of eternal death.

And that’s exactly what happened when we crucified Jesus on the cross; he took upon himself all the past, present, and future sin of all the world, and died for it, the penalty of sin. Therefore, those who believe in him as Savior are born-again, meaning their spirit comes alive just as God made Adam and Eve before the Fall, and they shall not have a second death, like those who do not claim Jesus as their savior, when God judges everyone at the end of time; they shall eternally perish in hell, and the remaining shall live eternally with God in worship and praise.

Jesus was born in the flesh, and when he was 30years old, he ministered “Repent! For the Kingdom is near” for 3 years. He was crucified on a cross, buried in a tomb, arose from the tomb, and ascended to the right hand of the Father.

Imagine having stolen from another, and at the trial just as the judge is about to sentence you to death, Jesus steps in and claims you as his own, that he paid the penalty you deserve when he died for you on the cross. The judge sees that the penalty for sin has been paid, and therefore, he lets you go free. Those who do not have Jesus’ covering, the blood of the cross, he shall sentence to eternal damnation.

Understanding this makes it clear that we are sinners in need of a savior. We need the blood of Jesus to cover us. To receive this, one believes in Jesus as Savior, King, Lord, and God. You, too, can heed Jesus’ call and come to him, repent, walking with him, and live with the Trinity eternally.
